Are you insured?
Yes, I am insured with Petplan pet business insurance, the insurance documents will be shown at initial consultation and a copy can be provided on request.
What happens in an emergency?
If I attend your property to collect your dog or if your dog is staying at my home and I find they need urgent veterinary care, or your dog becomes ill or injured during the walk, I will try to get in contact with either you, your emergency contact, or contact your own vet (as stated in your contract), transporting your dog to the vets ASAP. I will then continue to get in contact with you, if contact has not already been made, to let you know what has happened and to keep you up to date.
What areas due you cover?
Elsecar, Hoyland, Wombwell, Tankersley, Birdwell, Wentworth, Hemingfield, Chapeltown and surrounding areas. Please do get in touch to confirm if I am able to get to your area.
Who will walk my dog?
I am the sole employee of Wagging Tails and run all Monday – Friday walks. At the weekend, my partner, Simon, may join me on pre-arranged dog walks or, take for a walk any dogs staying with me, as those will be familiar with him.
Where will you walk my dog and will they be kept on the lead?
I will cater for your dog’s needs and try to where possible, minimise the time your dog spends travelling by walking in a suitable location close by. All walks are away from busy roads and traffic and in woods and fields that allow them to run, jump and socialise with minimal interruption.
At initial consultation, we will discuss your dog’s recall and their behaviour on a walk. Dogs will only be let off the lead with your full consent and when suitable to do so, in areas away from roads and with good visibility.
Is there a cancellation fee if I cancel a walk last minute?
No, I understand we all lead busy lives, I just ask for as much notice as possible.
Will you require a key to my home?
Yes, if you are not home during the day and your dog lives indoors then I will require a key to your home. I do not have a criminal record and have undergone a thorough CRB/DBS check before setting up Wagging Tails, my certificate will be shown at initial consultation and a copy can be provided on request.
What security do you have set in place for personal details and keys?
All personal details collected at initial consultations are kept in a secure place in my home, not on view, this includes keys when I am back home after completing the last appointment of the day. On the day, they are kept on me at all times, with colour coded key rings, this is so I know whose key is whose but do not include an address or any reference to your home, only your pet’s name.
Do you require a deposit for a home boarding booking?
During peak periods a non-refundable deposit may be requested for each home boarding booking. The deposit amount will be agreed at initial consultation and will vary depending on the number of dogs and length of stay.
How many dogs can you board at one time?
I board no more than two dogs plus Alfie at any one time and try to ensure that these two dogs are either from the same household or known to each other/socialised ahead of their stay. If your dog will be boarded with other dogs I will make you aware of this beforehand and always recommend your dog joining me and the other dogs on a group walk before their stay.
What if you home board more than one dog and they don’t get on?
I only home board dogs that are sociable and friendly. However, if for any reason this did happen I have my kitchen and living room gated so would be able to separate these dogs for the duration of their stay. I board no more than two dogs plus Alfie at any one time, minimising the risk of conflict between boarders.
What should I bring with me when dropping my dog off?
To make your dog as happy and as comfortable as possible, I would advise you to bring whatever is familiar to your dog. Some useful suggestions include; collar and lead, favourite treats and a toy, favourite food and water bowl, dog bed and blanket. I can provide these however appreciate that every dog is different.
My dog has special requirements, is Wagging Tails still suitable?
Of course! The aim of home boarding is to replicate your dog’s habits and daily routine at home, in my home while you are away. I appreciate that every dog is unique so please do make me aware of any special requirements and I will do my very best to ensure these remain unchanged while your dog is in my care.
How much notice should I give before booking?
Wagging Tails is becoming increasingly popular so please do try to provide as much notice as possible before you go away, especially if you are considering holidaying in peak times (April – September). I try to accommodate all dogs however will not compromise on the safety and comfort of others. Please do enquire and I will do all I can to assist.
I am new to home boarding, what happens next?
After you have booked your dog in for a stay at Wagging Tails, the next stage is for an initial meet and greet at my home, where you and your dog will visit me and Alfie, ensuring we and my home are suitable for you and your dog’s needs. A meet and greet is particularly important as this is an opportunity for Alife and your dog to be introduced, for them to get to know each other before you go away. Provided all goes well you will be asked to complete a Home Boarding Enrolment Form and pay a non-refundable deposit (if applicable). And that’s it, we’ll see you again on the morning of or the day before your holiday.
